Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group

Our research focuses on thrombosis and haemostasis, with a particular interest in improving the understanding of risk, clinical course and mechanisms of venous thrombosis and bleeding disorders such as haemophilia.

Thrombosis is a major health concern in the general population. One in 4 people worldwide die from conditions caused by thrombosis and venous thromboembolism is the third most common cardiovascular disease. Inherited and acquired bleeding disorders represent the other side of the spectrum of haemostaseology. Less frequent in the general population, their diagnosis and management in clinical practice may be challenging. Advances in the field of (inherited) bleeding disorders require additional clinical and translational research to better characterize pathophysiology, develop rational therapeutic targets, and improve patient care.
In the research section, details about ongoing projects of the research group and key publications are summarized.

The Thrombosis & Haemostasis Research Group is part of the Department of Medicine I and Clinical Division of Haemotology and Haemostaseology at the Medical University of Vienna and jointly affiliated with Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Cluster, Comprehensive Center for Cardiovascular Medicine, and SFB-F54 ("Cellular Mediators Linking Inflammation and Thrombosis").
