The Reinhold Schwarz Psycho-Oncology Award 2024 is awarded to PD Dr. Elisabeth Zeilinger for her study on whether and how socio-economic factors influence the psychological resilience of cancer patients under certain conditions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The study's findings showed that cancer patients with lower incomes experienced greater psychological distress and that the COVID-19 pandemic did not have an additional direct impact in this regard.
Dr. Zeilinger has received multiple awards for her work in psycho-oncological research and is part of Prof. Dr. Alexander Gaiger's team at the Department of Hematology and Hemostaseology at KIM 1, MedUni Vienna.
