Ap.Prof. Priv.-Doz.in Dr.in Johanna Gebhart, PhD completed her training as a specialist in internal medicine at the Division of Hematology and Hemostaseology, Department of Internal Medicine I (Medical University of Vienna/Vienna General Hospital) and is currently training to become a specialist in hematology and oncology. She completed her PhD studies in 2015 and habilitated in internal medicine in 2018.
Her scientific focus is on blood coagulation research (congenital blood coagulation disorders/bleeding tendencies of unknown cause) and platelet research (platelet dysfunction, primary immune thrombocytopenia). As Principal Investigator, she co-initiated and leads prospective cohort studies such as the Vienna Bleeding Biobank (VIBB) to investigate the pathophysiology of bleeding tendencies of unknown cause and hereditary blood coagulation disorders, as well as the Vienna ITP Biobank to record and characterize patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia: patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia, as well as the Lupus Anticoagulant and Thrombosis Study, which investigates risk factors for clinical manifestations in patients with positive lupus anticoagulant or antiphospholipid antibodies. antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Prof. Gebhart also acts as Principal Investigator in clinical studies (phase I to IV) in the field of immune thrombocytopenia.
Her scientific work has taken her to international research centers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC, USA (2014) and to the Eberhart Karls University in Tübingen, Germany (2019-2020).
Prof. Gebhart is a member of guideline committees and consensus groups for the development of treatment guidelines on the subject of primary immune thrombocytopenia. She is active in various functions in professional societies and scientific journals both nationally and internationally.
