Research focus


The Clinical Department of Hematology and Hemostaseology at MedUni
Vienna, located within Vienna General Hospital, is dedicated to
swiftly translating laboratory and preclinical research breakthroughs
into accessible diagnostics and therapies for patients ("translational
research").

Structured into program managements for laboratory and clinical research, our division is led by internationally recognized experts,ensuring that patients benefit directly from our advancements. Additionally, we provide patients with the opportunity to engage in study programs.

As a key component of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) of MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital, the Division of Haematology and Haemostaseology actively participates in numerous clinical programs and research collaborations. Notably, we collaborate with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Haematology and Oncology, led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Peter Valent.

The field of Haemostaseology boasts internationally renowned
clinicians and scientists, further bolstered by two distinguished
chairs held by Univ.-Prof.in Dr.in med.univ. Sabine Eichinger- Hasenauer, Univ.-Prof. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Cihan Ay, dedicated to advancing both research and education.

Our research endeavors encompass the full spectrum of congenital and acquired thrombosis and hemostasis disorders, including thrombocytopenia and antithrombotic therapies.

Recognized as a "European Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Center" by the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD), our Division also holds the designation of an "International Hemophilia Training Center" bestowed by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH).
