David Vöhringer

David Voehringer is an immunologist with expertise on type 2 immune responses elicited by helminth infections and allergens. He studied Biology in Tübingen and Freiburg, Germany. He received his PhD degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in 2001 from the University of Freiburg for work on anti-viral CD8 T cell responses in the group of Prof. Pircher. During his Post-Doc period (2002-2005) with Prof. Locksley at UCSF he started to work on cellular mechanisms associated with protective type 2 immunity against helminths. After that, he received an Emmy-Noether grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to establish his independent research group at the Institute of Immunology at the LMU Munich. In 2009 he was awarded with an ERC starting grant to investigate mechanisms regulating the persistence of allergic sensitization. Since 2010 he is Professor and Head of the Department of Infection Biology at the University Hospital Erlangen and the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.
