Southern Medical University

Fang Wang, MD, PhD, is a professor and physician-scientist at the Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University, China. She received her MD from Fudan University and her PhD from Sun Yat-sen University. Since 2009, she has practiced dermatology in China, integrating clinical care with translational research. She completed postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Kim at Washington University in St. Louis, where she developed expertise in neuroimmune mechanisms of skin disease.

Her research focuses on neuroimmune pathways underlying chronic pruritic skin diseases. She founded a dedicated itch clinic to advance patient care and translational research. Her work has been supported by the Young Scientists Fund (Class A) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and she received the 2024 RAJKA Medal for contributions to atopic dermatitis research.

Dr. Wang’s recent studies define key neuroimmune mechanisms driving itch and inflammation in atopic dermatitis. She identified a central role for basophils in itch and showed that sympathetic nerve signaling amplifies basophil-mediated skin inflammation. As first or corresponding author, she has published in leading journals, including Cell, Immunity, JACI, and JAAD. Her work integrates neural and immune pathways to better understand the skin-brain axis and identify new therapeutic strategies for inflammatory skin diseases.
